Another way of looking at this question – of science or religions which has their head in the sand? The religious view is actually very easy to define and that is there isn’t any proof – period. They can then point to the Bible, for whatever worth it is, and say the Book is right and that homosexuality is a sin. That’s simple, right? Maybe not as I’ll be talking about the few Bible passages on the subject in a later blog entry.
While science has this huge and ever growing mountain of data that, while not one piece proves anything, altogether strongly indicates that homosexuality is natural and the cause or causes take place in the womb, in very early childhood or perhaps a combination of the two.
All the religious leaders can do is introduce the conjecture that homosexuality is caused in childhood as gender confusion, family dysfunction, or molestation. They are guessing with no facts to back them up. The only ‘facts’ they quote are the statistics on ‘ex-gays’, those who had been ‘made straight’ usually through reversion therapy (which, at least for homosexuality, the American Psychological Association and the American Psychiatric Association both condemn) and, of course, there are no statistics showing how many of these developed depression and/or committed suicide. They don’t mention those.
So who has their head in the sand? I think it is clear that it’s the religions who do. They are deliberately overlooking the facts and presenting garbage in it’s stead. Sure there is no proof but the evidence is overwhelming.

Really? You might wish to rethink that incredibly inaccurate position. Well, at least if you don’t want to be entirely disingenuous.
There are only two – TWO – of the six major world religions that oppose homosexuality. I hate to say it, but it’s you who need to go “back to school”.
With all due respect.
A very good thought provoking blog Teresa
I only know from my own experiences as a a “bi” sexual girl,i know it was not a choice i made,i am rarely i hasten to add attracted to both “genders”,what they have between their legs doesn’t even interest me its the person i am attracted to.
Being bi,gay, straight, trans, asexual, pan sexual etc is not a choice why would we choose to be different to be shunned by society?I realize in some cases “bi” is a choice in other words not fussy it just increases the numbers for their sexual partners, some use “bi” to turn men on,to try to satisfy thier man’s fantasy to see and be involved in girl on girl action.
I think every one is for the use of a better word “bi” in some way and not always sexually, why cant we all be attracted to both genders for who that person is?
It really saddens me one is judged for not fitting the considered “normal” mode, define normal i for one would hate to be considered the “norm”.
Keep up the good work helping to educate and inform people.

I was trying not to name names but I guess the reference to the Bible might have given one away. I know the two religions you’re referring to and I don’t know much about the one so I’m not commenting on it. To do so I would have to go back to school.
Sorry I was a little hostile. I generally agree with what you were saying, it’s just that those who want America to be a Christian nation refuse to accept that they’re only part of the whole. I’m angry at them – not you.
I’m Christian and lesbian and I don’t believe them to mutually exclusive like some might. I want to make my voice heard about these fanatics who call themselves “Christian”. They really need a good dose of Christ’s love.
