I’ve been reading a number of articles on this subject and my fingers felt the need to express themselves on this. Please remember that I live in Canada where we have marriage equality and the world hasn’t ended, government hasn’t collapsed and marriage is as strong as ever.
I say marriage is as strong as ever because marriage isn’t very strong now is it? According to the Canadian figures first marriages have about a 50% chance of ending in divorce, and the risk becomes greater with each successive marriage (about 72% for second, and about 85% for third marriages). The US numbers seem to be a little better with 50% percent of first marriages, 67% of second and 74% of third marriages ending in divorce.
Gays and lesbians don’t want anything extra, they just want what everyone else already enjoys – the right to marry. Civil unions are a really bad compromise and many have taken that route but only because it was the only route to go. They want marriage.
Those opposed are usually very hateful people. Somehow they get the idea that if it were open to gays and lesbians it somehow diminishes the institution of marriage. I have to ask how? Obviously it can’t be that strong to begin with if 50% are doomed to fail. And I’ve already mentioned that the institution is still alive and strong in Canada or as strong as it was before the marriages became equally available.
No, the only explanation I can see is those opposed to marriage equality are bigots. They are fighting homosexual rights and they don’t care how many lies they spread doing it. What infuriates me is that many of these people call themselves Christian. This bothers me because there is not one word about homosexuality in the Bible. These people have twisted a handful of passages in the Good Book to mean something that is not true.
I’m going to quote some passages from the Bible. I strongly suspect that members of these hate groups haven’t found them. I don’t know how they could miss them as they are right there in the teachings of Jesus and one is among the ten commandments.
Mark 12:28-31 (KJV):
And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all?
And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.
It’s really simple, love God and love your neighbour. Not much love in these hate groups.
Exodus 20:16 (KJV):
Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
Matthew 12:36-37 (KJV):
But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.
As most of what these groups spread are lies they’ve broken one commandment and gone against the teachings of Christ – again.
Matthew 7:1-5 (KJV):
Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.
And these hate groups love to judge. I know, I’m doing the same and judging them. Oh well, I think they’ve earned my distaste. Homosexuality is a reality of life. It exists in nature and it exists in humankind. It’s not a choice as some liars will tell you. Oh, one more lie before I go – they believe that same-sex parents will indoctrinate children so they are homosexual as well. There’s no proof of this. In fact the prevalence of homosexual children from same-sex relationships is the same as from heterosexual ones.
Christ be with you,
