I love it! I was reading a commentary on the San Diego Lesbian and Gay News website titled The angry, hate-filled Americans hiding behind Jesus robes and one paragraph just leapt out at me.

I’ve been told that people who hate are lacking Jesus in their lives. If only they had Jesus all the hate would be replaced with love, kindness, understanding, forgiveness and acceptance. The world would be filled with puppy dogs and sweet little kitties!

I’ve been making this point in many postings on this blog that the hate gay, lesbian and transgender are exposed to is not from people who follow the teachings of Christ. They are just wearing the Christian label and nothing more.

Mark 12:28-34 One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”

The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”

“Well said, teacher,” the man replied. “You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him. To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”

When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” And from then on no one dared ask him any more questions.

It’s also in Mathew 22:34-40 (NIV)

Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

That’s it. Love God and love your neighbour. The two greatest commandments of the Christian faith. So how do some of these anti-gay ‘Christians’ stack up to this? Most of them don’t. They say they are Christians but they don’t act like it.
